Washington Times: “Mexico’s illegals laws tougher than Arizona’s”

Hi Gang:

The news report I have attached below appear’s in today’s edition of the Washington Times and is a very important news article that all Americans (as well as citizens of Mexico) need to read! This report was written by Jerry Seper, a true journalist with whom I have become extremely familiar ever since I made the decision, in the wake of the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001 to get my perspectives based on decades of intimate familiarity with the various aspects of the immigration crisis confronting our nation “out there.”

Jerry is one of the most knowledgeable and experienced journalists who has been covering the immigration beat for many years.

Additionally, Jerry quoted one of the most knowledgeable members of Congress where the issue of immigration is concerned- Congressman Steve King of Iowa who, is also the ranking Republican on the House Immigration Subcommittee. Both of these leaders in their respective fields are willing to enter into serious discussions and listen to those they speak to. Could you imagine a member of Congress actually speaking with someone rather than talking at someone? Steve King is such a leader. (I remember having a conversation with Congressman King after I testified before a hearing at the Immigration Subcommittee. I told him that if he wasn’t careful, he might give politicians a “good name!”)

The issue that Jerry Seper raises in his news article today points out the clear double standard demonstrated time and time again by leaders of Mexico where the issues of immigration and border security are concerned. Consider this segment of the article that addresses the penalties that Mexico imposes on aliens who are found to be in violation of Mexico’s immigration laws:

Under the Mexican law, illegal immigration is a felony, punishable by up to two years in prison. Immigrants who are deported and attempt to re-enter can be imprisoned for 10 years. Visa violators can be sentenced to six-year terms. Mexicans who help illegal immigrants are considered criminals.

The law also says Mexico can deport foreigners who are deemed detrimental to “economic or national interests,” violate Mexican law, are not “physically or mentally healthy” or lack the “necessary funds for their sustenance” and for their dependents.

Please stop and read that first highlighted paragraph again:

Under the Mexican law, illegal immigration is a felony, punishable by up to two years in prison.

Meanwhile the president of Mexico and his proxies in the United States including politicians who are supposedly representing citizens of the United States, yell bloody murder that the United States needs to provide a pathway to United States citizenship for illegal aliens- individuals who, under his country’s laws would be facing two years in federal prison! Talk about chutzpah or, as they say in Mexico: cojones!

(There is a classic example of chutzpa in Yiddish humor about the young man who kills both parents and pleads for mercy at the conclusion of his murder trial- begging he should be given special dispensation inasmuch as he is an orphan! Clearly President of Calderon of Mexico has trumped that oft cited classic example of chutzpah!)

Here is something to ponder: Do you think President Calderon is about to pass Comprehensive Immigration Reform in Mexico? Do you think it is likely he will provide any sort of amnesty for illegal aliens in Mexico?

Congressman King- a true “straight shooter” who always cuts to the chase summed up the situation succinctly with this one sentence quote:

“Why would Mr. Calderon have any objections to an Arizona law that is less draconian than his own, one he has pledged to enforce?” Mr. King said.

The answer to Representative King could be summed up by the apocryphal quote attributed to “Deep Throat” in the film “All The President’s Men” when he counseled reporters Woodward and Bernstein to “Follow the money!”

Each and every year it is estimated that illegal Mexican aliens working in the United States send more than 20 billion dollars back to their families in Mexico. This is the “visible money.” Additional money of significance is also smuggled into Mexico by illegal aliens from Mexico and even more money is smuggled into Mexico from the Mexican drug cartels. This is money that enriches the Mexican economy while draining money from our economy. The fact that Mexico now considers their citizens who run our nation’s borders to represent the number one or number two most lucrative export should make clear just how perverse this situation is!

Our government implemented an “economic stimulus program” that has effectively mortgaged the economic future of our nation for generations to come. We were told that the point to this program was to pump money into the economy to stimulate economic growth. Meanwhile many of the same politicians who pushed the economic stimulus package down our throats favor increasing, exponentially, the number of foreign workers in the United States- both legal and illegal. This makes as much sense as turning on the faucets on your bathtub while leaving the drain open. No matter how much hot water flows into the tub, the drain removes it nearly as fast as it pours in. You could come back an hour later and still not have enough water in the tub to take a bath! Foreign workers, whose goal is to send every last sent of their paychecks to their families in their home countries act as that drain!

By providing Mexican citizens with the ability to earn money in the United States that they send home to their impoverished families also acts as an economic and societal safety valve for Mexico. In point of fact, Mexico has one of the most profitable economies of Latin America but the great majority of the money that the Mexican economy generates is enjoyed by a very small percentage of Mexico’s elite.

By proving young and physically fit male citizens of Mexico with a pathway to the United States- albeit an illegal pathway- these men are kept busy working in our country and not making demands of the government of their own country. This helps Mexico to maintain the economic status quo that is favored by the wealthy and powerful of Mexico.

I have often made the point that when a young couple in the United States adoringly watch their baby sleeping in his (her) crib, they most likely speak in hushed tones of their fervent wishes that their baby goes to college for a bright future. A young Mexican couple, watching over their sleeping baby would most probably say, with equal fervor, that they want their child to go to the United States for a bright future!

When I was a young man growing up in Brooklyn, that I would ultimately teach people how to treat me by making clear what I was willing to accept. Most Americans have conditioned their elected representatives to expect that We the People would not make our demands known to those whose job is to represent us. This absolutely must change and must change now!

Meanwhile there are politicians who are now demanding that citizens of the United States boycott businesses owned and operated by their fellow Americans in Arizona! These disloyal politicians need to be boycotted on election day! Perhaps they should be made to register as lobbyists for the government of Mexico!

If reading this makes it difficult for you to sleep now- perhaps you could do something worthwhile- perhaps you might spend a couple of your sleepless hours writing letters to your elected representatives this evening and remind them that Election Day is just months away!

We the People can add to the consternation of these politicians who are failing to live up to their oaths of office by contacting them and making it abundantly clear that election day is coming and they should think of election day as their personal “Day of Reckoning!”

Our government must live up to its obligation of protecting its own citizens and, indeed, all who are present in our country from the criminals and terrorists who would threaten our lives and the survival of our nation and our way of life. In the end, the government is actually those who are elected to act as our “leaders.” Those who fail to truly lead and look out for those they are supposed to represent, need to be sent packing this coming Election Day!

If our country is to survive and if our children and their children are to get their share of the “American Dream” the citizens of this nation must take their citizenship seriously!

We the People must be the best citizens we can be, citizens who are worthy of the gallantry demonstrated by our valiant men and women in the military, law enforcement and firefighters, who routinely go in harm’s way in defense of this nation and our citizens.

My goal in writing this and other commentaries is to point out our nations many failings before more victims pay the ultimate price for the incompetence and ineptitude of our government.

The first step in problem-solving is to first identify the problems and vulnerabilities and then devise strategies to overcome them.

Any politician who refuses to work to secure our borders and create an immigration system that has integrity is either corrupt or too dumb to keep his (her) job. Any politician, irrespective of party affiliation who favors Comprehensive Immigration Reform and the outrageous betrayal that this would represent given the national security implications that this program would have, should be shown the door at the next election!

If you find yourself to be in agreement with this commentary, I ask that you forward it to as many of your friends and family members as possible and encourage them to do the same. We need to create a “Bucket Brigade of Truth!”

Later this year, each and every member of the House of Representatives is up for reelection. Later this year more than one third of the members of the United States Senate will have to face their constituents. They need to be reminded that they work for us, We the People!

However, the practice of good citizenship does not end in the voting booth, it only begins there.
The large scale apathy demonstrated by citizens of this nation has emboldened elected representatives to all but ignore the needs of the average American citizen in a quest for massive campaign funds and the promises of votes to be ostensibly delivered by special interest groups. There is much that we cannot do but there is one thing that We the People absolutely must do- we must stop sitting on the sidelines!

The collective failure of We the People to get involved in make our concerns known to our politicians have nearly made the concerns of the great majority of the citizens of this nation all but irrelevant to the politicians.I implore you to get involved!
If this situation concerns you or especially if it angers you, I ask you to call your Senators and Congressional “Representative. This is not only your right- it is your obligation!
All I ask is that you make it clear to our politicians that we are not as dumb as they hope we are!
We live in a perilous world and in a perilous era. The survival of our nation and the lives of our citizens hang in the balance.
This is neither a Conservative issue, nor is it a Liberal issue- simply stated, this is most certainly an AMERICAN issue!
You are either part of the solution or you are a part of the problem!
Democracy is not a spectator sport!
Lead, follow or get out of the way!
