My article today is predicated on my concerns tht the media and the politicians who are willing to discuss the immigration crisis narrow their focus to the U../Mexican border. Make no mistake, the lack of security on that 2,000 mile border is, by itself, a major issue that undermines national security, public safety and public health- but, it only accounts for about two per e=cent of America’s borders. When you take the northern border into account, along with our nation’s 95,000 miles of coastline, the border that surrounds the United States is more than 100,000 miles long. Additionally, the United States has well over 100 international airports scattered across the United States in virtually every state. All of these provide access to the United States.
Yet- the only issue we continue to hear about is the crisis on the southern border. Illegal drugs and other contraband enter the Untied States every day along all of our nation’s border and through international airports by other means as well. Yet the entire focus is the Mexican border.
Another major vulnerability that is carefully ignored, is the lack of interior enforcement of our nation’s immigration laws- that has also been greatly exacerbated by the Biden Administration and Joe’s “sidekick” Alejandro Mayorkas- the DHS (Department of Homeland Surrender) Director. As I noted in a recent article, putting Mayorkas in charge of DHS is the equivalent of putting an arsonist in charge of the fire department!
While some politicians- mostly Republicans, insist on the need to hire more Border Patrol agents- they utterly ignore the pressing need to hire ICE (Immigration and Customs Enforcement) agents and the need for effective interior enforcement of our immigration laws.
My article today explains how and why the focus on only the Mexican border must be broadened to include all of the elements of our immigration system.
The immigration system’s abject lack of integrity parallels the lack of integrity of our politicians and the media.
I hope my commentary provides you with a bit of “food for thought.”
