Hi Gang:
The news report I have attached below appears in today’s (April 21st) edition of the Washington Times and provides yet another reason why it may be difficult to go to sleep at night.
The news article reports on a Pentagon prepared report for the United States Congress on Teheran’s military and its operations in the Western Hemisphere.
The idea that Iran has reportedly stationed its elite soldiers in Venezuela- a nation whose leader, Hugo Chavez has not concealed his animosity towards our nation should give all Americans and especially our nation’s leadership “cause for pause.”
Here are a couple of points to bear in mind. First of all, it would be an extremely simple matter for Venezuela or Bolivia- another country that has nothing but contempt for our nation, to provide Iranian troops with passports from Venezuela or Bolivia with a false (Hispanic) name, to enable those soldiers to enter the United States as illegal aliens posing as Latin Americans. If an individual was to spend several years in Latin America and become immersed in the language and culture of a Latin American country- it would be impossible to readily determine the true identity and nationality of such an individual. I am speaking from experience as a former INS officer.
There have also been numerous reports written about the existence of terrorist training camps in the so-called “Tri-Border Region of Brazil being run by terrorist organizations that include Hamas and Hezbollah.
It is amazing to consider that when Russia shipped ballistic missiles to Cuba in October of 1962 that the Kennedy administration sprang into action and established a naval blockade around Cuba to force the missiles to be withdrawn from the Western Hemisphere. President Kennedy rightfully saw that move by the former Soviet Union as representing a “Clear and Present Danger” to the United States. Meanwhile, under the current administration Cuba has sent all sorts of advisors to Venezuela including security specialists to apparently help Chavez maintain his power in Venezuela and now Venezuela is apparently playing host to elite Iranian soldiers and thus far, nothing has been said or done!
I also want you to remember that on November 4, 1979 Iranian students seized the United States Embassy and its employees and maintained that seize for 444 days. (Those of you who are too young to remember this event may be interested to know that when ABC News began covering the hostage taking at our embassy, the program evolved into the current evening news magazine show- “Night Line.”
It has been widely speculated that this event and the bungling by the Carter administration that contributed to Carter losing his bid for re-election to President Reagan.
As an INS special agent, back then, I had a front-row seat to the incompetence and utter lack of resources of the former Immigration and Naturalization Service to carry out the orders of the White House to find the thousands of Iranian students in the United States to determine if any of them were illegally present and/or involved in actions that were contrary to the best interests of our nation. This effort really got ramped up when hundreds of Iranian students engaged in demonstrations in Washington, D.C. The demonstrators were arrested with the female Iranian Students being taken to the Metropolitan Correctional Center (MCC) in lower Manhattan and the male students being taken to the federal prison located upstate in Ottisville, New York- some 70 miles northwest of New York City.
A number of my colleagues were sent to FCI Otisville while other agents, myself included, were assigned to interview the female detainees at MCC. We were ordered to do all sorts of things that were highly irregular and unprecedented. For example, we were told that the Iranians would provide their own translators and the attorneys who represented them would not have to provide a form G-28 (Notice of Appearance of an Attorney). There would be no way of knowing what those in custody were saying because we had no idea as to the reliability of the translators. We had no way of knowing if the attorneys were truly attorneys and then we were told that we could only ask 8 questions of those in custody! Normally there is no restriction on the questions we could ask as long as they were relevant. We were not even able to fill out all of the boxes on the paperwork- the forms contained many more than 8 blank spaces. Additionally, in my entire 30 year career with the INS I had never before been told to not ask questions that were not on the forms we routinely completed in conjunction with the processing of an illegal alien in custody. Off limits were any questions about the home address of these Iranians, names of family members or any of a number of additional questions.
I recall that we were told to wait until the middle of the night whenever the supposed attorneys showed up and then, finally in the middle of the night we were told to go home and return early the next morning. Psychologically this was an absolute train-wreck! It is a well established principle that anyone who has the capacity to keep the other person waiting takes on the role of preeminence. By having the agents wait until the middle of the night and by placing us on an incredibly short leash- compromising our ability to ask any meaningful questions, made it clear we were the tail of the dog!
It was also astounding to find out that when these individuals were initially arrested in Washington that the names they provided to the police were not names at all but were Farsi words for bodily functions and anatomical parts!
All I could think of as my colleagues and I labored under the insane and extremely humiliating circumstances was that I wanted to suggest that whoever agreed to this nightmare should attempt to perform an act that would constitute an anatomical impossibility!
I can tell you that each and every one of us felt the exact same way!
Following this unbelievable disaster we were told to try to find the other Iranian students who had moved throughout the United States- supposedly to attend school. Some schools cooperated with us completely, while other schools demanded subpoenas! Meanwhile, we had no idea as to how many Iranian students had even been admitted into the United States. Most of the addresses we had for these students yielded nothing! Some of the addresses were utterly fictitious while at other locations the students had moved years earlier and we had absolutely no way of finding them!
Now, today, we have a porous border that is supposed to separate the United States from the madness of the extreme violence of Mexico and the potential that enemy soldiers are setting up shop in a host country that would love to see the United States evaporate!
If this is the bad news- I am sorry to tell you I have even worse news!
The administration is now gearing up to provide a pathway to United States citizenship for millions of illegal aliens who haven’t a shred of paper to prove who they really are! There will be no way of knowing their true names, nationalities or when, where or how they entered the United States. There will be no way of knowing if the illegal alien who claims to be a citizen of a Latin American country is really from Latin America or, perhaps, from Iran!
It has been said that it is essential to study history to prevent making the same mistakes over again. Yet the “leaders” of our country are so hell-bent on Comprehensive Immigration Reform that they are willing to ignore history and commonsense. They are certainly not the least bit concerned about the oaths of office they took to secure our country. Having mentioned the oath of office our federal officials take, let me provide it to you:
(The current oath was enacted in 1884):
I do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; that I take this obligation freely, without any mental reservation or purpose of evasion; and that I will well and faithfully discharge the duties of the office on which I am about to enter: So help me God.
There is a couple of basic questions that we need to ask each and everyone one of our elected officials-
!. Do you believe you must honor the oath of office you took when you were sworn in?
2. Do you believe that the presence of narco-terrorists in Mexico and the apparent presence of Iranian soldiers in Venezuela constitute enemies of the United States?
3. Is there any way our nation can defend itself against the terrorists and the soldiers without securing our nation’s borders?
4. Do you concede that USCIS (United States Citizenship and Immigration Services) is unable to carry out its responsibilities with even a modicum of integrity today?
5. If USCIS cannot deal with its workload today- what impact do you believe a massive program under the aegis of Comprehensive Immigration Reform would have on any last vestiges of integrity at USCIS?
6. Would it therefore be clearly evident that the implementation of Comprehensive Immigration Reform would provide virtually unlimited opportunities for criminals, terrorists and Iranian soldiers to enter our country and avail themselves of the opportunity to embed themselves in our country under assumed identities and act as “sleeper agents” until the day that they are called into action?
In the event that you believe I am over reacting- I want you to remember that a study that was conducted after the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001 identified 94 terrorists who had entered the United States in the decade before the attacks of September 11, 2001. Of those 94 terrorists, 59 of them used immigration fraud to enter the United States and/or embed themselves in the United States. Remember, these were the ones we were able to identify. No one knows how many more may well have entered the United States and embedded themselves in the United States.
I would also ask you check out the New York Times report that was published on March 24, 2010 entitled:
“Immigration plan would create backlog
Agency not ready to process millions”
Here is the link to that article which formed the basis for a commentary I wrote when that article was first published:
http://www.washingtontimes.com/news/2010/mar/24/immigration-plan-would-create-mother-of-all-backlo/
Additionally, The Examiner published a story just last week, on April 12th that formed the basis for yet another of my commentaries and that was reminiscent of my personal experiences more than thirty years ago when my colleagues and I attempted to located an unknown number of presumably thousands of Iranian students who might have been up to harmful activities in our country:
Feds can’t find Somalis they say Va. man smuggled into U.S.
Here is the link to that disturbing news report:
http://www.washingtonexaminer.com/local/crime/Feds-can_t-find-Somalis-they-say-Va_-man-smuggled-into-U_S_-90381114.html
I would also remind you that the immigration fraud was an integral part of the strategy that was employed by the terrorists who attacked our nation in 1993 at the CIA resulting in the death of two CIA officers and the wounding of three others and again a month later when the World Trade Center was bombed with 6 victims being killed, hundreds- if not thousands injured and a half billion dollars in damage inflicted on that centerpiece of the skyline of lower Manhattan.
Think about how many terrorist suspects have been arrested in the United States and elsewhere since then.
Think about how Iran has made it abundantly clear that the goal of that country is to develop intercontinental ballistic missiles and how concerned most countries are about Iran’s nuclear ambitions.
If you cannot sleep now- perhaps you could do something worthwhile- perhaps you might spend a couple of your sleepless hours writing letters to your elected representatives this evening and remind them that Election Day is just months away!
We the People can add to the consternation of these politicians who are failing to live up to their oaths of office by contacting them and making it abundantly clear that election day is coming and they should think of election day as their personal “Day of Reckoning!”
Our government must live up to its obligation of protecting its own citizens and, indeed, all who are present in our country from the criminals and terrorists who would threaten our lives and the survival of our nation and our way of life. In the end, the government is actually those who are elected to act as our “leaders.” Those who fail to truly lead and look out for those they are supposed to represent, need to be sent packing this coming Election Day!
If our country is to survive and if our children and their children are to get their share of the “American Dream” the citizens of this nation must take their citizenship seriously!
We the People must be the best citizens we can be, citizens who are worthy of the gallantry demonstrated by our valiant men and women in the military, law enforcement and firefighters, who routinely go in harm’s way in defense of this nation and our citizens.
My goal in writing this and other commentaries is to point out our nations many failings before more victims pay the ultimate price for the incompetence and ineptitude of our government.
The first step in problem-solving is to first identify the problems and vulnerabilities and then devise strategies to overcome them.
Any politician who refuses to work to secure our borders and create an immigration system that has integrity is either corrupt or too dumb to keep his (her) job. Any politician, irrespective of party affiliation who favors Comprehensive Immigration Reform and the outrageous betrayal that this would represent given the national security implications that this program would have, should be shown the door at the next election!
If you find yourself to be in agreement with this commentary, I ask that you forward it to as many of your friends and family members as possible and encourage them to do the same. We need to create a “Bucket Brigade of Truth!”
Later this year, each and every member of the House of Representatives is up for reelection. Later this year more than one third of the members of the United States Senate will have to face their constituents. They need to be reminded that they work for us, We the People!
However, the practice of good citizenship does not end in the voting booth, it only begins there.
The large scale apathy demonstrated by citizens of this nation has emboldened elected representatives to all but ignore the needs of the average American citizen in a quest for massive campaign funds and the promises of votes to be ostensibly delivered by special interest groups. There is much that we cannot do but there is one thing that We the People absolutely must do- we must stop sitting on the sidelines!
The collective failure of We the People to get involved in make our concerns known to our politicians have nearly made the concerns of the great majority of the citizens of this nation all but irrelevant to the politicians.I implore you to get involved!
If this situation concerns you or especially if it angers you, I ask you to call your Senators and Congressional “Representative. This is not only your right- it is your obligation!
All I ask is that you make it clear to our politicians that we are not as dumb as they hope we are!
We live in a perilous world and in a perilous era. The survival of our nation and the lives of our citizens hang in the balance.
This is neither a Conservative issue, nor is it a Liberal issue- simply stated, this is most certainly an AMERICAN issue!
You are either part of the solution or you are a part of the problem!
Democracy is not a spectator sport!
Lead, follow or get out of the way!
