"The Time Has Come to Stop Profiling American Voters"

Hi Gang:

I am, once again, providing you with my most recent commentary for the CAPS (Californians for Population Stabilization Website).

My focus is on the absurd notion that all voters of a particular ethnicity will vote the same way, and, if that is not bad enough, will vote for an issue that stands to do them tremendous harm!

As you will see in my commentary for CAPS, my incentive for writing that commentary was provided by a statement that Presidential Candidate Newt Gingrich made during an interview where he was asked about the “Mormon Vote.”

Just about every political pundit who appears on the various talk shows- often on Sunday mornings, will talk about the “Hispanic vote,” the “Jewish vote,” the “Black vote” or some other such block of monolithic voters.  They will often prescribe what political candidates must favor if they are to curry favor with the various blocks of voters.

While the immigration issue had been assiduously avoided by most journalists, these reporters now understand that they can no longer avoid the discussion about what is arguably the most significant challenge that confronts our nation and our citizens, impacting nearly every challenge and threat we face today.  Having decided that they can no longer evade this discussion, immigration is not handled as a major factor in national security or criminal justice and community safety but is dealt with as an isolated issue.  In point of fact, it is insane to think that you can protect our nation from terrorists and our nation’s enemies when their are millions of foreign nationals living in nearly every city and town throughout our country and we have absolutely no way of knowing their true identities- even their countries of citizenship.  This means that we have no way of knowing anything about their possible criminal backgrounds or affiliation with criminal or terrorist organizations.  The purpose of the immigration laws and the inspections process that is conducted when an alien applies for entry into the United States is to attempt to prevent aliens who pose a threat to our safety and security, from entering our country.

It is similarly absurd to discuss the economy and unemployment when there are unknown millions of illegal aliens in our country taking jobs Americans most certainly would take for a living wage if they had the opportunity to take those jobs.  The administration has currently taken to the policy of conducting “Silent Raids” of employers of illegal aliens in which employers may be fined or prosecuted for knowingly hiring illegal aliens but where the illegal alien employees are never interviewed by the special agents of ICE (Immigration and Customs Enforcement).  Often the illegal aliens are never aware that a “raid” was conducted!  They just keep on working or, at worst, move on to some other employer!  Previously when illegal aliens were arrested in factories, food processing plants and other such venues, the next day a long line of American workers would form outside the factory gates- all hoping to get a job that had been freed up as a consequence of the raid.

Similarly, healthcare and education are being hammered by the impact of millions of illegal aliens and their children seeking treatment in hospital emergency rooms and education in overcrowded schools.  Educating students who do not possess fluency in the English language further exacerbates the problems this creates for school systems that are short on cash but need to educate growing numbers of pupils.

Rather than honestly discuss the importance and purpose of our nation’s immigration laws, most of these pundits will intone in the most serious voices possible, that anyone who wants to become the next President of the United States, or just about any other elected position, must curry favor with the “Hispanic Voters” and this can only be achieved by favoring pathways to citizenship for illegal aliens and other such amnesty programs that would compromise national security and community safety and provide potentially tens of millions of illegal aliens with lawful status and equal right to take the limited number of jobs that politicians claim that they will create if they are elected!

Every alien who is granted employment authorization is given an equal right to take a job that an American or lawful immigrant desperately needs to support himself and his family!  Every illegal alien who is provided with employment authorization is also provided with an authentic bit of government ID that is a “breeder document.”  The ID that they are issued can be used to obtain a Social Security Card, a driver’s license and other such identity documents enabling that person to open bank accounts, own property and have access to airliners, government and corporate office buildings.  Illegal aliens, who are often referred to as being “Undocumented” by the immigration anarchists, have no reliable and authentic documentation to prove their true identities.  It is entirely possible that terrorists could easily game such a system in order to obfuscate their true identities- something that they must do if they are to successfully embed themselves in our country since it is possible that their true names are posted on various “No Fly” and terrorist watch lists.  The 19 terrorists who attacked our nation on September 11, 2001 used some 364 false identities or variations of identities in order to conceal their true identities and movements as they went about their preparation to attack our nation and the innocent victims they slaughtered on that day of extreme violence more than a decade ago.

Providing an illegal alien with an official identity document with potentially a false name also provides that illegal alien with a level of credibility that he (she) would not otherwise be entitled to.  This also provides ample opportunities for criminals to create their own personal “Witness Protection Program!”

The most likely victim of crimes that are perpetrated by members of ethnic gangs and the members of the very same ethnicity- most often within the immigrant communities of those ethnic groups.  This is not at all limited to Hispanic gangs but to gangs of every category whether it is the Asian community, the Caribbean community or any other such community.

The problem is that all too often, when people are told how they should react to a situation they tend to want to play the game of “Follow the leader.”  While many members of the Hispanic community favor secure borders and the effective enforcement of the immigration laws, it is likely that some members of the community may be swayed into favoring policies that are not in their best interests and are thereby being manipulated by journalists and the advocacy groups that profit greatly by exploiting illegal aliens and are eager to push their agenda to increase their profits!

These unscrupulous immigration anarchists fully understand that to win the debates they must first overcome a series of impediments, namely; the law, the facts, commonsense and morality!  They vilify those who oppose them and attempt to change the language to evade the truth.  They will attempt to equate the term “Alien” with the “N” word when, in reality, the term “Alien” is a part of the vernacular and appears in the bible, our Constitution and the Immigration and Nationality Act (INA).  In fact, the definition of alien in the INA is simply, “Any person who is not a citizen or national of the United States.”  I defy anyone to tell me how this term and this definition should be or could be equated with “hate speech!”  The problem with the term “Alien” is that it provide clarity to the debate that the other side cannot win if they have to deal with the facts.  Indeed, their motto should be, “Don’t confuse me with the facts!”

The debate over the wisdom of our nation securing its borders and enforcing its immigration laws that are, incidentally, utterly blind as to race, religion and ethnicity is no debate at all- these issues should be filed under “Commonsense” especially in this era of record levels of unemployment and threats posed by international terrorists and transnational gangs.

Could you imagine a family sitting around the dinner table discussing whether or not the family members should keep their doors locked at night especially if their had been home invasions being carried out by violent thugs?  This is the situation our nation finds itself in today.

It is amazing that journalists who are quick to profile Hispanic voters are likely the same journalists who would scream loudly if a law enforcement officer or his (her) law enforcement agency was accused of profiling!
Show me a politician who refuses to enforce the immigration laws or attempts to trivialize these laws, and I will show you a politician who needs to find out what it is like to stand on the unemployment line!

Benjamin Franklin, in discussing our then fledgeling nation, said that they had given us a republic if we could keep it!

What he was making clear was that this democratic republic required that its citizens take their citizenship seriously and keep the political leaders accountable.

It is time for the citizens of our nation to make certain that our nation’s leaders, on all levels, to come to terms with the fundamental fact that the purpose of our immigration laws is to protect our nation and our citizens from aliens whose presence has the potential to have a serious adverse impact.  Ignoring those laws exposes our nation and our citizens to a variety of serious threats and challenges ranging from national security and criminal justice and public safety to the economy, the environment, healthcare and education!

A country without secure borders can no more stand than can a house without walls!

I

our country is to survive and if our children and their children are to get their share of the “American Dream” the citizens of this nation must take their citizenship seriously!

We the People must be the best citizens we can be, citizens who are worthy of the gallantry demonstrated by our valiant men and women in the military, law enforcement and firefighters, who routinely go in harm’s way in defense of this nation and our citizens.
My goal in writing this and other commentaries is to point out our nations many failings before more victims pay the ultimate price for the incompetence and ineptitude of our government.
The first step in problem-solving is to first identify the problems and vulnerabilities and then devise strategies to overcome them.

If you find yourself to be in agreement with this commentary, I ask that you forward it to as many of your friends and family members as possible and encourage them to do the same.  We need to create a “Bucket Brigade of Truth!”

The practice of good citizenship does not end in the voting booth, it only begins there.

For far too long our citizens demonstrated apathy which emboldened elected representatives to all but ignore the needs of the average American citizen in a quest for massive campaign funds and the promises of votes to be ostensibly delivered by special interest groups.

It is therefore understandable that the politicians of both parties, are greatly concerned about the demonstrations currently sweeping our nation just as did the creation of the Tea Party.  Clearly  more and more of our fellow Americans are demonstrating that they are not as dumb as the politicians from both parties had expected us to be!

I am encouraged that more and more of us, We the People, are not willing to simply sit on the sidelines anymore!

I believe our nation’s is greatly benefited by the rich diversity of our people which is why I could never imagine living anywhere except New York City, arguably the most diverse city in our nation if not, in fact, the world.  However, my idea of diversity most certainly does not include members of MS-13, the Mexican drug cartels or members of other transnational gangs or members of al-Qaeda!

I also believe that the original purpose of our nation’s immigration laws need to be be brought “front and center” to make certain that our nation does not permit the entry of aliens into our country whose presence in our country is problematic for the citizens of our nation and that if such aliens do succeed in entering our country that our nation have the resources, integrity and dedication to do everything possible to make it impossible for such aliens to function within our country so that even if they are not apprehended, they will find it pointless to remain in the United States.
As I have noted on a number of occasions, “No one would break into the amusement park if they could not get to go on the rides and no one remains in the amusement park at the end of the day when they turn shut down the rides and turn off the lights!”

If our government’s failures to secure our nation’s borders and effectively enforce our immigration laws concerns you or especially if it angers you, I ask you to call your Senators and Congressional “Representative. This is not only your right- it is your obligation!

All I ask is that you make it clear to our politicians that we are not as dumb as they hope we are!

We live in a perilous world and in a perilous era. The survival of our nation and the lives of our citizens hang in the balance.

This is neither a Conservative issue, nor is it a Liberal issue- simply stated, this is most certainly an AMERICAN issue!

You are either part of the solution or you are a part of the problem!

Democracy is not a spectator sport!

Lead, follow or get out of the way!

The Time Has Come to Stop Profiling American Voters

By Michael Cutler, Senior Special Agent, INS (Ret.), CAPS Senior Fellow, February 5, 2012

This past Monday evening, January 31st, Fox News’ Greta Van Susteren aired a video of a brief interview that had been conducted with Presidential candidate Newt Gingrich, in which he was asked about his thoughts about his impending trip to Nevada and how he would fare against Mitt Romney in that state.  He was asked about the impact of the “Mormon vote” in Nevada and about a number of other issues.  Former Speaker Gingrich began by saying:

“First of all I don’t think Mormons automatically vote monolithically…”

If former House Speaker Newt Gingrich truly believes that Mormons “don’t automatically vote monolithically” then why would he or anyone else expect any other ethnic or religious group would “vote monolithically?”

I believe that Newt Gingrich was correct- there is no monolithic vote where our citizens are concerned. While some voters will vote for someone simply because they are of the same religion or ethnicity as a candidate, or find some other such perceived common ground, it is wrong to simply lump American citizens into groups based on race, religion or ethnicity in an effort to predict how they will vote or how a candidate must take a position on a controversial issue in order to gain the vote of that group of voters.

To simply look at a person and predict how that person will vote based simply on his (her) race, religion or ethnicity is a form of profiling of the worst kind.

By breaking our citizenry into these groups, we divide our nation and pit Americans against one another.

We have permitted politicians and journalists to hyphenate our nation; this is not only wrong-headed but dangerous.  As President Abraham Lincoln famously stated, “A house divided against itself cannot stand.”

Unfortunately, there are some folks who will assume positions about issues based on what they hear on the television or radio and may even begin to come to believe that they should take a particular position because it is all but expected that they will take certain positions.  This is one of the risks of having people who are unable to think for themselves or develop critical thinking skills.

It is absurd to believe that lawful immigrants and naturalized citizens would welcome open borders and pathways to citizenship for illegal aliens who, rather than play by the rules and abide by the laws that lawful immigrants adhered to in entering our country, have shown utter contempt for our laws and our nation’s sovereignty by running our nation’s borders, stealing other people’s identities and taking the jobs American workers desperately need.

The purpose of our nation’s immigration laws is to protect our nation and our citizens and lawful immigrants from aliens whose presence in our country would be problematic.  Our immigration laws are supposed to prevent the entry of aliens who might take the jobs or even the lives of our citizens. Those laws are not about race, religion or ethnicity but about differentiating what it is to be a lawfully admitted nonimmigrant, lawfully admitted immigrant or United States citizen from an illegal alien.

In an era in which our citizens and lawful immigrants of every race religion and ethnicity faces the threat of violence perpetrated by violent transnational gang members and terrorists and the loss of jobs to our nation’s economic crisis and unfair competition for remaining jobs by foreign workers, our nation’s immigration laws have never been more important for our nation or our citizens!  In point of fact, most Americans of all races, religions and ethnicities have come to understand how important our nation’s borders and immigration laws are!

In fact, the results of the Florida GOP Primary, Mitt Romney won handily even though his approach to the immigration crisis is to call for illegal aliens to be convinced to self-deport while Newt Gingrich has taken a far softer approach on the immigration crisis talking about how we should not seek to deport grandmothers and grandfathers.  To put this in context, Florida has a large Hispanic population- primarily with origins that can be traced to Cuba.

While the open borders anarchists and many politicians may claim that a candidate who wants to capture the “Latino Vote” must advocate pathways to lawful status for illegal aliens and the DREAM Act, it would certainly appear that in reality the majority of Americans have come to understand the importance of secure borders and immigration laws that are actually enforced!  In my travels I have encountered many lawful immigrants and naturalized United States citizens who resent illegal aliens receiving immigration benefits when they and their family members had followed the letter of the law as well as the spirit of the law in legally immigrating to the United States.

There is, however, one group of people that should be “pandered” to by the politicians and that group consists of all of our citizens irrespective of race, religion or ethnicity or even political affiliations.  This was precisely what President Lincoln had in mind when he referred to our nation’s government as being “Of the people, by the people and for the people!”
