As I always do on Friday evenings, at 7:00 PM Eastern Daylight Saving Time, I will be hosting my radio program- “The Michael Cutler Hour.”

Horace Cooper is an adjunct fellow with the National Center for Public Policy Research, a member of the African-American leadership group Project 21 and a legal commentator. He taught constitutional law at George Mason University in Virginia and was general counsel to U.S. House Majority Leader Dick Armey. .

New York City’s Mayor Bloomberg has reportedly refused to accept food donations for homeless shelters because of an inability to accurately measure the nutritional content of the food being donated!

I generally focus on issues relating to border security and immigration law enforcement but, on occasion, I do like to delve into other examples of nonfeasance, misfeasance and malfeasance committed by our government on all levels. Certainly this story provides an interesting opportunity to look at the sort of incomprehensible decision making by our political leaders but it also, in my view, has a nexus to the issue of border security.

At a time that our nation is purportedly fighting a “War on Drugs” and a War on “Terror” it is unfathomable that while the “food police” focuses on nutrition and excessive amounts of sugar and salt in the foods we eat, you would be hard pressed to find any public service announcements warning against the dangers associated with the use of cocaine, heroin, meth and other illegal drugs that are directly or indirectly related to the vast majority of crimes committed in this country and in countries such as Mexico.

Furthermore, the drug trade fills the coffers of the drug cartels, transnational gangs and terrorist organizations.

It is hard to believe that our government is indeed the government so eloquently described by President Abraham Lincoln when he spoke of a government that was “of the people, by the people and for the people!”

If our government’s failures to secure our nation’s borders and effectively enforce our immigration laws concerns you or especially if it angers you, I ask you to call your Senators and Congressional “Representative. This is not only your right- it is your obligation!

All I ask is that you make it clear to our politicians that we are not as dumb as they hope we are!

We live in a perilous world and in a perilous era. The survival of our nation and the lives of our citizens hang in the balance.

This is neither a Conservative issue, nor is it a Liberal issue- simply stated, this is most certainly an AMERICAN issue!

You are either part of the solution or you are a part of the problem!

Democracy is not a spectator sport!

Lead, follow or get out of the way!
