Interview for of Amy Laff- attorney and political activist from Arizona

Hi Gang:

I recently interviewed an attorney and political activist from Arizona, Amy Laff for my website at AND Magazine.
Amy is a good friend and was, in fact, instrumental in arranging to get me in touch with the law firm that was retained by Governor Jan Brewer to defend her and her state against the outrageous lawsuit filed by the United States Department of Justice when, out of frustration that the federal government would not effectively enforce the immigration laws, enacted their own statutes that essentially paralleled portions of the federal immigration laws.

The leaders of Arizona were disgusted that an average of a kidnapping and/or home invasion was being committed in that state’s beleaguered capitol, Phoenix each and every day and most of those crimes were directly related to the failures of the federal government to truly secure the U.S./Mexican border and the failures of the federal government to apprehend illegal aliens- especially aliens involved in the smuggling of drugs and aliens into the United States.

I subsequently provided that law firm with an extensive declaration that became an integral part of the legal defense of SB 1070 (Arizona’s immigration law).

Although Amy now lives in Arizona, when I found out that she was going to be in New York City (she is a native New Yorker) I invited her into our studios at AND Magazine to have a conversation about a number of issues that relate back to the various aspects of America’s immigration crisis.

Please take a moment to read the contents of the First Amendment of our Constitution

First Amendment

Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the government for a redress of grievances.

The Founding Fathers understood that in order for our nation to have a true democratic process, the citizens had to be guaranteed the right of conducting debates, discussions and, if need be, arguments, provided that all such encounters were done “peaceably.”  This is why the right of the people to peaceably assemble is noted in the First Amendment.  Back then the only way to have those discussions was face to face.
Today we suffer from a form of censorship that is imposed by various groups who take the position that if anyone disagrees with them, they are the enemy!
Nothing could be further from the truth!  The discourse called for in the First Amendment is literally “As American as Apple Pie!”
This is one of the primary reasons I have created my program on AND Magazine to provide information that is all too often not being provided by traditional news programs.

It is my goal, as the Senior Immigration Editor for AND Magazine, to provide perspectives and information about the immigration crisis and related areas of concern, that are not being provided anywhere else.

The first step in problem solving is to acknowledge that a problem exists.

If you like what you find at my website, I ask that you forward the link to as many folks as possible and ask them to do the same- I am attempting to create a “Bucket Brigade of Truth!”

If our government’s failures to secure our nation’s borders and effectively enforce our immigration laws concerns you or especially if it angers you, I ask you to call your Senators and Congressional “Representative. This is not only your right- it is your obligation!

All I ask is that you make it clear to our politicians that we are not as dumb as they hope we are!

We live in a perilous world and in a perilous era. The survival of our nation and the lives of our citizens hang in the balance.

This is neither a Conservative issue, nor is it a Liberal issue- simply stated, this is most certainly an AMERICAN issue!

You are either part of the solution or you are a part of the problem!

Democracy is not a spectator sport!

Lead, follow or get out of the way!
