"ICE arrests 13 during enforcement operation targeting convicted criminal aliens in the Boston-area"

Hi Gang:

Today’s commentary is based on an article I wrote for the CAPS (Californians for Population Stabilization) website that was posted today, May 4th.  That article, in turn, was predicated on a news release that was issued by ICE (Immigration and Customs Enforcement) to announce the arrest of 13 aliens who had criminal convictions, thus rendering them deportable from the United States.  (It is important to note that no mention was made in the ICE news release as to the means by which any of these criminal aliens had initially entered the United States.  They may have been lawfully admitted as immigrants or nonimmigrants or they may have entered the United States illegally.  This is significant because it is important to remember that our nation and our citizens are not only threatened by our extremely porous southern border but from all of the holes in the immigration system.

Nearly every politician has come to agree that the US/Mexican border needs to be secured.  Certainly that border must be made secure, but then all of the components of the immigration system must also be made to work effectively and with real integrity.

The Obama administration and others who are advocates for amnesty programs for massive numbers of illegal aliens are now claiming that the numbers illegal aliens being arrested by the Border Patrol has dropped thereby apparently signaling that the immigration crisis is all but over.  This is patently absurd, but consider how many politicians and “journalists” are lapping up this serving of Kool-Aid!

As I have noted on a number of previous occasions, including during an appearance on Neil
Cavuto’s program on Fox News
on December 21, 2011, trying to determine how many illegal aliens are present in the United States by reviewing Border Patrol arrest statistics is a bit like trying to take attendance and asking that people not present raise their hands!

On March 18, 2012 I wrote a commentary for Fox News Latino that was entitled, ”DHS Border Patrol Arrest Statistics Underestimate Illegal Immigration.”

Additionally, besides the fact that the DHS has been cooking the books in a number of ways to provide a false impression that arrest statistics are now lower, it is essential to understand that there are many more “moving parts” to the immigration system!  With the exception of two of the criminal aliens whose arrests were reported in the ICE news release, it is likely that the other criminal aliens did not run our nation’s border with Mexico but entered the United States at different locations- possibly with visas.  You should also consider that these aliens were arrested in the “Boston Area.”  If you check out a map of the United States, within the 48 continuous states, Boston is almost as far from the US/Mexican border as you can get!

This reenforces a point I have made innumerable times- every state must be considered a border state!

It is worth noting that the ICE news release failed to disclose anything about how, where or when these criminal aliens entered the United States in the first place.

It may well be politically expedient to claim that the immigration crisis has abated, but the reality is that this crisis is continuing and the impact can be felt in virtually every town and city across our country!  Nearly every challenge and threat that American and its citizen face are being heavily impacted by this crisis.
Show me a politician who refuses to enforce the immigration laws or attempts to trivialize these laws, and I will show you a politician who needs to find out what it is like to stand on the unemployment line!

Benjamin Franklin, in discussing our then fledgeling nation, said that they had given us a republic if we could keep it!

What he was making clear was that this democratic republic required that its citizens take their citizenship seriously and keep the political leaders accountable.

It is time for the citizens of our nation to make certain that our nation’s leaders, on all levels, to come to terms with the fundamental fact that the purpose of our immigration laws is to protect our nation and our citizens from aliens whose presence has the potential to have a serious adverse impact.  Ignoring those laws exposes our nation and our citizens to a variety of serious threats and challenges ranging from national security and criminal justice and public safety to the economy, the environment, healthcare and education!

A country without secure borders can no more stand than can a house without walls!

I

our country is to survive and if our children and their children are to get their share of the “American Dream” the citizens of this nation must take their citizenship seriously!

We the People must be the best citizens we can be, citizens who are worthy of the gallantry demonstrated by our valiant men and women in the military, law enforcement and firefighters, who routinely go in harm’s way in defense of this nation and our citizens.
My goal in writing this and other commentaries is to point out our nations many failings before more victims pay the ultimate price for the incompetence and ineptitude of our government.
The first step in problem-solving is to first identify the problems and vulnerabilities and then devise strategies to overcome them.

If you find yourself to be in agreement with this commentary, I ask that you forward it to as many of your friends and family members as possible and encourage them to do the same.  We need to create a “Bucket Brigade of Truth!”

The practice of good citizenship does not end in the voting booth, it only begins there.

For far too long our citizens demonstrated apathy which emboldened elected representatives to all but ignore the needs of the average American citizen in a quest for massive campaign funds and the promises of votes to be ostensibly delivered by special interest groups.

I am encouraged that more and more of us, We the People, are not willing to simply sit on the sidelines anymore!

I believe our nation’s is greatly benefited by the rich diversity of our people which is why I could never imagine living anywhere except New York City, arguably the most diverse city in our nation if not, in fact, the world.  However, my idea of diversity most certainly does not include members of MS-13, the Mexican drug cartels or members of other transnational gangs or members of al-Qaeda!

I also believe that the original purpose of our nation’s immigration laws need to be be brought “front and center” to make certain that our nation does not permit the entry of aliens into our country whose presence in our country is problematic for the citizens of our nation and that if such aliens do succeed in entering our country that our nation have the resources, integrity and dedication to do everything possible to make it impossible for such aliens to function within our country so that even if they are not apprehended, they will find it pointless to remain in the United States.
As I have noted on a number of occasions, “No one would break into the amusement park if they could not get to go on the rides and no one remains in the amusement park at the end of the day when they turn shut down the rides and turn off the lights!”

If our government’s failures to secure our nation’s borders and effectively enforce our immigration laws concerns you or especially if it angers you, I ask you to call your Senators and Congressional “Representative. This is not only your right- it is your obligation!

All I ask is that you make it clear to our politicians that we are not as dumb as they hope we are!

We live in a perilous world and in a perilous era. The survival of our nation and the lives of our citizens hang in the balance.

This is neither a Conservative issue, nor is it a Liberal issue- simply stated, this is most certainly an AMERICAN issue!

You are either part of the solution or you are a part of the problem!

Democracy is not a spectator sport!

Lead, follow or get out of the way!

ICE arrests 13 during enforcement operation targeting convicted criminal aliens in the Boston-area

ICE (Immigration and Customs Enforcement) posted a news release on April 30, 2012 that reported on the arrest of 13 criminal aliens in the Boston area.  These arrests were made under the aegis of “Operation Threats Against the Community” that began on April 26, 2012.  According to the news release, all but 2 of the 13 criminal aliens had multiple criminal convictions for serious or violent offenses.

The news release also included the following statement:

“The results of this targeted enforcement operation underscore ICE’s ongoing commitment to public safety,” said Vincent Archibeque, deputy field office director of ERO Boston. “When we focus on the arrest and removal of convicted criminal aliens we get an immediate payback in our communities. Because of the tireless efforts and teamwork of ICE officers – along with our state and local law enforcement partners – there are 13 fewer criminal aliens in our neighborhoods in Massachusetts.”

While it is significant that 13 criminal aliens were indeed taken off the streets, there are several issues that you should consider.  First, all of these aliens were arrested for violating the administrative provisions of the INA (Immigration and Nationality Act).  Some time ago, Janet Napolitano made light of the immigration laws and of the laws that were violated by aliens who ran our nation’s borders and evaded the inspections process that is designed to prevent the entry of aliens into our country who would pose a threat to the safety and well-being of our citizens and our nation.  She made comments about how simply running our border was not a felony but a violation of administrative law.  Today, ICE touted how those same administrative laws enabled ICE enforcement personnel to take 13 dangerous aliens off or our nation’s streets.  Those laws are, of course highly important.

Secondly, one of the aliens was from Peru, one was from Guatemala and eleven were from the Dominican Republic.  There was no mention as to how any of these aliens had entered the United States or if any of them had been initially admitted lawfully into the United States as either immigrants or nonimmigrants. From my experience as an INS Special Agent, it would be unlikely that aliens from the Dominican Republic would have entered the United States by running the U.S. / Mexican border.  (Violation of our nation’s immigration laws is not limited to our nation’s southern border and is not limited to citizens from Mexico.)

Additionally, there was no mention made as to how aliens could have been convicted on multiple occasions of committing felonies and managed to remain at large.  If any of these aliens fell through gaps in the system and were permitted to be released from custody without ICE taking them into custody, or if ICE took them into custody and then for some reason, engaged in the infamous “Catch and Release” program- then those who subsequently fell victim to those aliens would not have been victimized had those aliens not made their way back into the communities where they committed additional crimes.

Finally, the arrests were made with the assistance of local law enforcement. Time and again, the administration and others claim (falsely) that when local law enforcement cooperates in the enforcement of immigration laws that community policing suffers!  I sincerely doubt that those who live in the communities where these criminal aliens were plying their “trades” will no longer trust the police since they helped ICE take these thugs off the streets!

Once again it is a news release issued by ICE that reinforces an important point–the enforcement of our nation’s immigration laws protect American lives and the lives of all who live, work and visit in the United States.  All that is needed is the political will and integrity to get the job done.
