American Kids Go Hungry"

Hi Gang:
I was just sent a link to a You Tube video of GOP candidate Rick Perry staking out his position on immigration enforcement in absolutely crystal clear words that leave no room for interpretation or ambiguity.
The news is not good!
If Perry wins the nomination of the Republican Party the differences between Perry and Obama on immigration and border-related issues will apparently be all but nonexistent!
Once again the citizens of our nation will have to decide on two extremely bad choices! You could say that it will be a case of “Heads- they win, Tails, we lose!”
Here is the link:

[youtube UwD84nKA5y0]

You can watch him actually make the point that a border fence is nonsense and would only lead to the sale of more ladders! He made the absolutely false claim that we have the technology to implement a guest worker program an determine the true identities of those who would participate claiming that we need to bring people together and not drive a wedge between people! This continues the myth (lie) that the enforcement of the immigration laws are about race.

In point of fact, the immigration laws have absolutely nothing to do with race, religion or ethnicity and only distinguish citizens from non-citizens (aliens)!

He has made it clear that he opposes states passing their own immigration laws as did Arizona and a growing list of other states!
The reporter claimed that Governor Perry advocated for the implementation of Comprehensive Immigration Reform and she said that it was surprising that Perry was taking a “moderate” position that was similar to the position taken by most Democrats
There is nothing “moderate” about inviting more workers into our country especially when there are record numbers of American citizens and lawful immigrants of all races, religions and ethnicities who are out of work and losing their homes to foreclosure and their think sliver of the American Dream by being unable to support themselves and their families. What is described as “moderate” is really outrageous! After you watch the You Tube video of Rick Perry, you should watch the video of Obama chiding Americans who want our nation's borders made secure against illegal entry and ask yourself if there is any real difference between Obama and Perry.
Here is link to a You Tube video of President Obama addressing border security on May 10th of this year when he went to El Paso, Texas to once again, push for “Comprehensive Immigration Reform.”

'Alligators in the Moat': Obama Mocks Concerns About Border Security

The point that the reporters will not discuss or ask is how it makes a whit of sense to provide opportunities for still more foreign workers to enter our country and take jobs that our own citizens desperately want and need?
Here is a link to an ABC News Video that focuses on how pervasive poverty and hunger is among citizens of our nation today. Please take the time to watch this compelling and quite extensive video that is entitled:
“Shocking Need: American Kids Go Hungry”

You will find the text version of this extremely disturbing news report below, after my commentary.
The point is that there is an unbelievable disconnect between reality and the many ways in which failures to secure our nation's borders and enforce our nation's immigration laws from within the interior of the United States. When there are long lines of people standing in line in search of a job, any job, it makes absolutely no sense to add more people to those lines that literally and figuratively, already stretch to the horizon, yet this is precisely what Governor Perry is calling for.
Rick Perry makes all sorts of claims that are not based on truth or reality but, I suspect, he believes will play well for segments of voters and campaign contributors. Doting reporters who refer to the lunacy he advocates as being “moderate” never take the time to ask how it makes sense to encourage still more foreign workers to come to the United States when so many millions of American citizens and their children are living in poverty, right here in America!
No one challenges him about his claim that technology exists to determine who millions of guest workers are when there have been a long list of reports issued by the GAO (Government Accountability Office) and the OIG (Office of the Inspector General) that make it clear that there is no integrity to the process by which we provide aliens with visas, green cards or citizenship. No one makes note of the fact that perhaps 20 million nonimmigrant aliens are admitted into the United States under the auspices of the Visa Waiver Program and that there are anywhere from 5 million to 10 million illegal aliens who were admitted into the United States with visas or under the auspices of the Visa Waiver Program and then either failed to depart when they were supposed to or otherwise violated the terms of their admission into the United States. Yet there are fewer than 300 ICE (Immigration and Customs Enforcement) law enforcement officers seeking to locate and apprehend these millions of illegal aliens who did not run our nation's borders.
There are fewer that 3,500 ICE enforcement personnel to enforce our immigration laws across our entire nation and the actual population of illegal aliens is likely in excess of 30 million with more arriving each and every day and a current administration issuing policy decisions that make it clear that illegal aliens have nothing to fear if they enter our country, take jobs, avail themselves of economic subsidies, healthcare, education and send money back to family members in their home countries when our nation has sent the national debt into the stratosphere to create an “economic stimulus package” that was supposedly created to pump money into the U.S. economy to get people to spend money and increase demand for products, services, etc.
It is estimated that well in excess of 100 billion dollars are wired out of our country each and every year by foreign workers who are employed in our country.
This is money that is not spent in the United States. This is money that is not invested in the United States. This is money that is not earned by Americans or lawful immigrant aliens who are attempting to support themselves and their families in our country and finding it increasingly difficult to do so!
Yet when Perry mocks those of his fellow citizens of all political orientations, all races, all religions and ethnicities- no one challenges him! He is rewarded by being referred to as being “moderate!”
Could you possibly imagine a political campaign in Mexico, Ireland or India where a serious candidate for President of those and other countries would be referred to as being “moderate” for taking a position that parallels Perry's position?
A country without secure borders can no more stand than can a house without walls!

our country is to survive and if our children and their children are to get their share of the “American Dream” the citizens of this nation must take their citizenship seriously!

We the People must be the best citizens we can be, citizens who are worthy of the gallantry demonstrated by our valiant men and women in the military, law enforcement and firefighters, who routinely go in harm's way in defense of this nation and our citizens.
My goal in writing this and other commentaries is to point out our nations many failings before more victims pay the ultimate price for the incompetence and ineptitude of our government.
The first step in problem-solving is to first identify the problems and vulnerabilities and then devise strategies to overcome them.
If you find yourself to be in agreement with this commentary, I ask that you forward it to as many of your friends and family members as possible and encourage them to do the same. We need to create a “Bucket Brigade of Truth!”

The practice of good citizenship does not end in the voting booth, it only begins there.

The large scale apathy demonstrated by citizens of this nation has emboldened elected representatives to all but ignore the needs of the average American citizen in a quest for massive campaign funds and the promises of votes to be ostensibly delivered by special interest groups. There is much that we cannot do but there is one thing that We the People absolutely must do- we must stop sitting on the sidelines!

The collective failure of We the People to get involved in make our concerns known to our politicians have nearly made the concerns of the great majority of the citizens of this nation all but irrelevant to the politicians. I implore you to get involved!
I believe our nation's is greatly benefited by the rich diversity of our people which is why I could never imagine living anywhere except New York City, arguably the most diverse city in our nation if not, in fact, the world. However, my idea of diversity most certainly does not include members of MS-13, the Mexican drug cartels or members of other transnational gangs or members of al-Qaeda!

If our government's failures to secure our nation's borders and effectively enforce our immigration laws concerns you or especially if it angers you, I ask you to call your Senators and Congressional “Representative. This is not only your right- it is your obligation!

All I ask is that you make it clear to our politicians that we are not as dumb as they hope we are!

We live in a perilous world and in a perilous era. The survival of our nation and the lives of our citizens hang in the balance.

This is neither a Conservative issue, nor is it a Liberal issue- simply stated, this is most certainly an AMERICAN issue!

You are either part of the solution or you are a part of the problem!

Democracy is not a spectator sport!

Lead, follow or get out of the way!

“Shocking Need: American Kids Go Hungry”

By KIMBERLY BROWN

In high school, Katherine Foronda trained herself not to feel hungry
until after the school day had ended. She wasn't watching her weight or
worrying about boys seeing her eat.

She just didn't have any food to eat or any money to buy it.

“I thought, if I wasn't hungry during class I'd be able to actually focus on what we were learning,'' said Foronda, now 19.

Every day, children in every county in the United States wake up hungry.
They go to school hungry. They turn out the lights at night hungry.

That is one of the stunning key findings of a new study to be released Thursday by Feeding America, a network of 200 food banks and the largest hunger charity in the country.

As many as 17 million children nationwide are struggling with what is
known as food insecurity. To put it another way, one in four children in
the country is living without consistent access to enough nutritious
food to live a healthy life, according to the study, “Map the Meal Child
Food Insecurity 2011.”

Those hungry children are everywhere, and with the uncertain economy, the numbers are only growing, experts say.

The consequences of malnutrition can be severe. Several studies have
shown that food insecurity affects cognitive development among young
children. And for older children, students like Foronda, school
performance is affected. Additional research shows that with hunger
comes more frequent sickness and higher healthcare costs.

Medical research has shown that lack of nutrition can permanently alter a
child's brain architecture, stunting intellectual capacity and a
child's ability to learn and interact with others.

“The consequences and costs of child hunger make addressing this issue
an economic and societal imperative, in addition to an obvious moral
obligation,” said Vicki Escarra, president and CEO of Feeding America.

Feeding America's study, funded by ConAgra Foods, is based on 2009
statistics compiled by the U.S. Department of Agriculture, which runs 15
food aid programs, including the nationwide free and subsidized school
lunch program and WIC,
a supplemental food program that provides tailored food supplements to
pregnant women and families with children under age 5 whose household
income is less than 185 percent of the gross federal poverty limit.
That's an annual gross income of $41,348 for a family of four.

In fact, a shocking 49 percent of all babies born in the U.S. are born
to families receiving food supplements from the WIC program, according
to Jean Daniel, spokesperson for the USDA.

Previously, the only numbers available to illustrate the scope of child
food insecurity across the nation were figures broken down by state.

But the newly available county-by-county numbers are aimed at helping
local and federal providers of food aid better reach the people who need
it.

The study also breaks down child food insecurity rates by congressional
district, which could send a powerful message to Washington. The
proposed House budget for 2012 includes substantial cuts to food aid
programs in the 2012 budget cycle. The cuts could affect up to 350,000
recipients of the WIC program alone. The Emergency Food Assistance
Program, which provides agricultural products to food banks to pass on
to the poor, is also facing a proposed $50 million cut, representing
one fifth of the budget for this program.
