The discussions on all of these programs will take a hard look at how the failures of the administration to secure our borders and effectively enforce and administer our immigration laws greatly increase the risk of terrorists carrying out attacks in the United States. The corollary of course, is that the administration’s abysmal failures to enforce our immigration laws endanger national security and the lives of Americans across the United States.
Something to consider: During his September 10th speech about his plans to stop ISIS President Obama talked about depriving these savage thugs the opportunity to find “safe haven.” What no mainstream news programs failed to note is that the place where these terrorists would likely find it easiest to find safe haven is, in fact, the United States of America!
Failures of this administration to secure our borders and enforce our immigration laws fly in the face of the recommendations of the 9/11 Commission. Yet this major issue is ignored by every politician who favors providing unknown millions of illegal aliens with identity documents in conjunction with granting them lawful status, local and state politicians who have created so-called “Sanctuary Cities” and “Sanctuary States” and nearly every journalists who covers the immigration crisis.
The bottom line is that effective immigration law enforcement must be made an integral part of the overall strategy to protect America and Americans from ISIS.
Local cities and states that declare themselves to be “Sanctuaries” for illegal aliens exacerbate the threats to national security and public safety.
The voters of the state of Oregon will have to decide on whether or not illegal aliens in that state should be granted “Driver Privilege Cards” which would grant illegal aliens the authority to drive motor vehicles and, of necessity, official identity documents. I provided a document that will be provided to voters as they go to vote to provide my concerns about this issue and why this must not be permitted to happen.
Here is the link to my statement of endorsement for legislation that would block the implementation of this wrong-headed and, indeed, dangerous program:
On September 3, 2014 Fox News affiliate KMSP-TV posted this disturbing news report:
Here is how this report began:
An airport is probably the last place anyone would want a suspected terrorist to work, but before he died overseas, that’s exactly what Abdirahmaan Muhumed did in the Twin Cities. In fact, he may have cleaned your plane at the Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport. Muhumed was the second known Minnesotan killed while fighting for ISIS in Syria, and a Fox 9 exclusive uncovering his employment history is raising a few eyebrows.
Before he died, Muhumed left behind a trail of selfies and questions. Who recruited him to join the terror group, and how did he support himself and 9 children? Multiple sources tell Fox 9 News that, for a time, he worked at a job that gave him security clearance at the airport, access to the tarmac and unfettered access to planes.
Consider the news report posted by ABC News last week:
Here is how this truly disturbing report begins:
The Department of Homeland Security has lost track of more than 6,000 foreign nationals who entered the United States on student visas, overstayed their welcome, and essentially vanished — exploiting a security gap that was supposed to be fixed after the Sept. 11, 2001 terror attacks.
“My greatest concern is that they could be doing anything,” said Peter Edge, the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement official who oversees investigations into visa violators. “Some of them could be here to do us harm.”
Homeland Security officials disclosed the breadth of the student visa problem in response to ABC News questions submitted as part of an investigation into persistent complaints about the nation’s entry program for students.
ABC News found that immigration officials have struggled to keep track of the rapidly increasing numbers of foreign students coming to the U.S. — now in excess of one million each year. The immigration agency’s own figures show that 58,000 students overstayed their visas in the past year. Of those, 6,000 were referred to agents for follow-up because they were determined to be of heightened concern.
“They just disappear,” said Sen. Tom Coburn, R-Okla. “They get the visas and they disappear.”
Coburn said since the Sept. 11, 2001 terror attacks, 26 student visa holders have been arrested in the U.S. on terror-related charges.
On August 12, 2014 the publication, “The Hill” posted a startling report,
Here is how this unbelievable report began:
Reps. Jason Chaffetz (R-Utah), Trey Gowdy (R-S.C.) and Bob Goodlatte (R-Va.) chided the Obama administration for trying to lift a ban on Libyans coming to the U.S. to attend flight school or to study nuclear science.
“It is unbelievable that this administration is willing to put Americans in harm’s way by lifting a decades-old security ban on a country challenged by instability,” Chaffetz said on Monday. “This makes no sense. None.”
The lawmakers said the Office of Management and Budget (OMB) approved a regulation that allows Libyans to come to the United States for aviation and nuclear training programs. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Secretary Jeh Johnson could now sign that approved regulation.
“The Obama administration is turning a blind eye to real terrorist threats that exist in Libya today by carelessly forging ahead with its plan to allow Libyan pilots and nuclear scientists to study in the United States,” Goodlatte said. “I urge Secretary Johnson to stop this dangerous plan from taking effect.”
Here are a few “take-aways:”
By not looking for the majority of students who go missing, we send a clear message, violations of visas are not aggressively pursued. Any aspiring illegal aliens just needs to enter the United States and ignore the terms of their admission.
Second- consider how much damage just 19 terrorists inflicted on the United States on September 11, 2001. Now the DHS is concerned about 6,000 students who are of particular concern. However the total number of “missing” students is nearly ten times higher.
The administration is seeking to provide students from Libya with flight instruction and classes in nuclear physics. The administration claims that such students will be subjected to close scrutiny- the obvious question is how any meaningful background investigation could be conducted in a country that is in a state of turmoil where our embassies have been seized by our adversaries.
I am compelled to ask, “What could possibly go wrong?!”
This is hardly a new problem.
I have testified before well over a dozen Congressional hearings in both the House of Representatives and the Senate. Perhaps the highest profile hearing I for which I have been called to testify was conducted on March 19, 2002 by the House Committee on the Judiciary, Subcommittee on Immigration and Claims, on the topic:
“INS’S MARCH 2002 NOTIFICATION OF APPROVAL OF CHANGE OF STATUS FOR PILOT TRAINING FOR TERRORIST HIJACKERS MOHAMMED ATTA AND MARWAN AL-SHEHHI”
This hearing is the hearing I referenced during my interview today.
This hearing was covered by C-SPAN and the C-SPAN video every member of Congress should be required to watch it. It is unfathomable how twelve years after that hearing was conducted into one of the most outrageous screw-ups that all of the promises to address the failures of the system continue to plaque the very same system that would be required to adjudicate the applications filed by unknown millions of illegal illegal aliens in the United States under “Comprehensive Immigration Reform.”
Furthermore, the DHS is a largely dysfunctional agency that, from its inception, was an agency hobbled by its very structure that de-emphasized the effective enforcement of our immigration laws.
On August 25, 2014 FrontPage Magazine posted my article:
Holding Congress accountable.
What is seldom noted is that our immigration system has been overwhelmed for years and America and Americans have been bearing the brunt of this meltdown.
On Feb. 18, 2013 Accuracy In Media (AIM) published my paper- it is important to remember that leaders of both parties and most journalists are pushing for “Comprehensive Immigration Reform.
The starting point for any discussion about immigration must be the findings and recommendations of the 9/11 Commission.
Last week marked the publication of the 9/11 Commission Report.
Yet there are precious few members of Congress in either the House of Representatives or the United States Senate from either party willing to even mention the fact that there was a 9/11 Commission- when the topic of immigration is raised!
Here are a couple of important quotes to put things in proper perspective:
The first paragraph of the preface of the The 9/11 Commission Staff Report on Terrorist Travel begins with the following statement:
It is perhaps obvious to state that terrorists cannot plan and carry out attacks in the United
States if they are unable to enter the country. Yet prior to September 11, while there were
efforts to enhance border security, no agency of the U.S. government thought of border
security as a tool in the counterterrorism arsenal. Indeed, even after 19 hijackers
demonstrated the relative ease of obtaining a U.S. visa and gaining admission into the
United States, border security still is not considered a cornerstone of national security
policy. We believe, for reasons we discuss in the following pages, that it must be made
The 9/11 Commission Staff Report on Terrorist travel went on to detail numerous examples of instances where terrorists not only made use of visa and immigration benefit fraud to enter the United States but to also embed themselves in the United States. Page 47 of this report noted:
Once terrorists had entered the United States, their next challenge was to find a way to remain here. Their primary method was immigration fraud. For example, Yousef and Ajaj concocted bogus political asylum stories when they arrived in the United States. Mahmoud Abouhalima, involved in both the World Trade Center and landmarks plots, received temporary residence under the Seasonal Agricultural Workers (SAW) program, after falsely claiming that he picked beans in Florida.
This paragraph is found on page 98 under the title “Immigration Benefits:”
“Terrorists in the 1990s, as well as the September 11 hijackers, needed to find a way to stay in or embed themselves in the United States if their operational plans were to come to fruition. As already discussed, this could be accomplished legally by marrying an American citizen, achieving temporary worker status, or applying for asylum after entering. In many cases, the act of filing for an immigration benefit sufficed to permit the alien to remain in the country until the petition was adjudicated. Terrorists were free to conduct surveillance, coordinate operations, obtain and receive funding, go to school and learn English, make contacts in the United States, acquire necessary materials, and execute an attack.”
Here are some addition links I hope you find helpful to put the immigration crisis in proper perspective:
On May 22, 2014 CAPS (Californians for Population Stabilization) posted my commentary:
On June 11, 2014 FrontPage Magazine posted my article:
I hope you will be listening.
On June 13, 2013 I was interviewed by Neil Cavuto on the topic:
The interview runs about 4 minutes and is worth watching.
The importance of our borders and our immigration laws cannot be overemphasized. In the war on terror and transnational gangs, they are our first line of defense and our last line of defense. They are equally important to American workers who are facing unfair competition from foreign workers, aided and abetted by the administration and advocates for “Sanctuary Cities” and Comprehensive Immigration Reform,
In his historic speech before the 3rd Army on May 31, 1944, General George S. Patton said, on the strategy of holding a position:
“We’re not holding anything, we’ll let the Hun do that. We are advancing constantly, and we’re not interested in holding onto anything except the enemy.”
Pushing back against Comprehensive Immigration Reform is the same as holding position. The time has come for us to advance by demanding that our borders be made truly secure and our immigration laws be effectively administered and enforced.
Comprehensive Immigration Reform violates all of the findings and recommendations of the 9/11 Commission but no one is willing to even consider how the lack of real border security and the lack of real integrity to the various components of the immigration system imperil national security and public safety.
The findings and recommendations of the 9/11 Commission must be the starting point for any discussion about immigration legislation. That commission determined that a lack of border security, including the visa process. and fraud in the immigration benefits program, enabled terrorists to enter and embed themselves in the United States, as they went about their deadly preparations.
Immigration is not a single issue but a singular issue that impacts nearly every challenge and threat confronting the United States today! Simply stated, the immigration laws were enacted to save lives and protect the jobs of American workers. In point of fact, our borders and our immigration laws are America’s first line of defense and last line of defense against international terrorists and transnational criminals.
It is not “Anti-Immigrant” to be “Pro-American!”
Our armed forces are charged with securing America’s borders externally while the DHS is supposed to secure those same borders from within. The failures of the DHS to live up to its half of the equation are undermining the efforts, valor and incredible sacrifices of Americas men and women who serve in our military!
If our government’s failures to protect American jobs by securing our nation’s borders and effectively enforcing our immigration laws concerns you or especially if it angers you, I ask you to call your Senators and Congressional “Representative. This is not only your right- it is your obligation!
All I ask is that you make it clear to our politicians that we are not as dumb as they hope we are!
We live in a perilous world and in a perilous era. The survival of our nation and the lives of our citizens hang in the balance.
This is neither a Conservative issue, nor is it a Liberal issue- simply stated, this is most certainly an AMERICAN issue!
You are either part of the solution or you are a part of the problem!
Democracy is not a spectator sport!
Lead, follow or get out of the way!
