My focus today is a commentary
I wrote for CAPS (Californians for Population Stabilization) that was posted earlier today on their website. As you will see, the enforcement and administration of America’s immigration laws have serious national security implications- and this is something that is blithely ignored by everyone who has advocated for Comprehensive Immigration Reform.
During the State of the Union Address the President attempted to make it appear that everyone agrees with the concept of providing lawful status for unknown millions, likely tens of millions of illegal aliens, whose true identities- even their true countries of birth are unknown and unknowable. He talked about the need to provide these illegal aliens with a pathway to United States citizenship that was fair. He bolstered this idea of fairness by claiming that these aliens would have to pay taxes and other penalties and learn English and undergo a “security check” and be placed on the “back of line.”
He also linked this program with making the border that is supposed to separate the United States from Mexico secure and to this end, promised more “boots on the ground” along the southern border. This is consistent with the wacky notion that if the southern border can be made secure, then it would be appropriate to implement Comprehensive Immigration Reform!
What is being ignored is that there are far more issues involved than the issue of border security to be found along the U.S. / Mexican border!
On Monday, February 4th I was a guest on Neil Cavuto’s program on Fox News, “Your World With Neil Cavuto.”
Eric Bolling filled in for Neil today and we discussed the U.S. Senate’s proposed legislation that would link “Comprehensive Immigration Reform” to certification by Janet Napolitano, as Secretary of DHS (Department of Homeland Surrender), that the border is secure!
In case you missed my appearance, here is the link to the video of my interview:
Here is what Obama did not discuss and what is almost never discussed anywhere-
First of all, while he wants to create a “pathway” to United States citizenship for millions of illegal aliens, the United States already runs a veritable “super highway” for citizenship for more than 1.1 million lawful immigrants who are admitted into the United States each and every year. This a greater number of lawful immigrants than all of the other countries of the world combined provides!
Illegal aliens don’t just gain access to the United States by running the southern border. They also run the Canadian border, stowaway on vessels and enter the United States via the inspections process and then violate the terms of their admission into the United States through ports of entry to be found along both America’s northern and southern borders, seaports and international airports. This is why I have come to say that America does not just have four border states, (California, New Mexico, Arizona and Texas) but, in reality has 50 border states!
When the President and other advocates for Comprehensive Immigration Reform promise to put these unknown millions of illegal aliens on the “back of the line” a strategy to placate those who oppose amnesty for these illegal aliens, what is not being considered is that no matter where these aliens have to stand on the line, the line itself is inside the United States! This means that these aliens will immediately be eligible to work in the United States and send money to their families in their home countries. Each year tens of billions of dollars are wired by their foreign workers from the United States to their home countries.
This is money that is not earned by American or lawful immigrant workers and money that is not spent or invested in the United States.
When we hear about the issue of “security checks” what is generally not understood by most Americans including, in my experience, politicians, is that aliens who have no arrest record in the United States will likely get a “no hit” on their fingerprints even if they have extensive criminal histories in their home countries. If they use a false name, they will more than likely, be able to game this system.
Of even greater concern is the lack of integrity to the process by which aliens acquire lawful immigrant status, United States citizenship or have their applications for other immigration benefits processed.
Here are a few links to some recent articles I have written for CAPS that focus on these failures:
Every time you hear the President or other high-ranking members of the administration talk about clearing up the backlog of applications for citizenship, you should know that this is code for approving just about every application that lands on the desks of the hapless adjudications officers of USCIS (United States Citizenship and Immigration Services) the agency under the DHS (Department of Homeland Security) that is charged with processing all applications for various immigration benefits including the conferring of lawful immigrant status and United States citizenship upon aliens as well as handle all other applications for a wide array of other immigration benefits.
The alien DREAMERS who are being processed for employment authorization are not even being interviewed in person- yet they are getting official identity documents that they can use to immediate get Social Security cards, driver’s licenses, library cards (access to internet), credit cards and other such documents that enable them to get jobs in facilities that may have critical infrastructure as well as national security implications!
Time and again various GAO and OIG (Office of Inspector General) reports make it clear that USCIS is unable to carry out its vital missions with meaningful integrity- thereby threatening national security and the safety of communities across the United States. In fact, it is this lack of integrity that served as the jumping off point for my most recent commentary for CAPS. The findings of the Center for Immigration Studies came to the disturbing conclusion that dozens of naturalized United States citizens made use of their U.S. citizenship not to realize their “American Dream” or facilitate the creation of opportunities for other Americans or lawful immigrants to achieve their “American Dreams” but to create a true American Nightmare by becoming involved in terrorism or espionage!
It is extremely important that this not be interpreted to mean that we must be distrustful of lawful immigrants and naturalized American citizens. Our nation was indeed built by lawful immigrants. Few Americans can go back more than a generation or two before they find a family member who immigrated to the United States from another country. For me, it was my mom who passed away when I was in college, who immigrated legally to the United States shortly before the onslaught of the Holocaust in Europe. In fact, I was named for her mother (my grandmother) who died in the Holocaust.
The issue is that there is a lack of integrity to the processes by which USCIS carries out its missions and this creates a huge threat to our security and safety. It is this very same agency that would be required to administer Comprehensive Immigration Reform. Given the abysmal track record of USCIS, expecting that inept, incompetent and screwed up agency to deal with the onslaught of what may likely turn out to be tens of millions of applications in conjunction with CIR is a bit like asking a bed-ridden patient gasping for breath on a respirator to run a successful marathon race!
During the summer of 2007, I wrote an Op-Ed piece for the Washington Times concerning that legislative nightmare entitled:
Immigration bill a “No go.”
I was gratified and, in fact, greatly honored that Senator Jeff Sessions of Alabama, the Ranking Republican on the Senate Judiciary Committee quoted from my Op-Ed (with attribution) on three separate days from the floor of the United States Senate during the contentious floor debate on Comprehensive Immigration Reform.
Immigration is not a single issue but a singular issue that impacts nearly every challenge and threat confronting the United States today!
Our armed forces are charged with securing America’s borders externally while the DHS is supposed to secure those same borders from within. The failures of the DHS to live up to its half of the equation are undermining the efforts, valor and incredible sacrifices of Americas men and women who serve in our military! The immigration laws are supposed to achieve two primary goals- to protect American lives and protect Americans’ jobs.

Our nation is greatly benefited by the rich diversity of our people which is why I could never imagine living anywhere except
New York City, arguably the most diverse city in our nation if not, in fact, the world. However, my idea of diversity most certainly does not include members of MS-13, the Mexican drug cartels or members of other transnational gangs or members of al-Qaeda or other terrorist organizations!
It is also vital that American workers never be made to compete with foreign workers for their jobs! (This requirement is a component of the Immigration Laws that are not being enforced today!)
If our government’s failures to secure our nation’s borders and effectively enforce our immigration laws that are intended to protect our nation and our citizens concerns you or especially if it angers you, I ask you to call your Senators and Congressional “Representative. This is not only your right- it is your obligation!
I also ask that you pass this e-mail along to your friends and neighbors- I am attempting to create a “Bucket Brigade of Truth!”
We the People must make it clear to our politicians that we are not as dumb as they hope we are!
We live in a perilous world and in a perilous era. The survival of our nation and the lives of our citizens hang in the balance.
This is neither a Conservative issue, nor is it a Liberal issue- simply stated, this is most certainly an AMERICAN issue!
You are either part of the solution or you are a part of the problem!
Democracy is not a spectator sport!

Naturalized security threats retain U.S. citizenship
United States citizenship represents the greatest honor our nation can grant an alien. It also represents the “Keys to the kingdom” inasmuch as unlike many other countries, the United States makes no distinction between naturalized citizens and citizens who acquire their citizenship through birth. U.S. naturalized citizens have held government leadership positions including governors, judges, congressmen and high-ranking members of the armed forces.
Citizenship however, is at the precipice of being further devalued if comprehensive immigration reform is enacted thereby providing pathways to citizenship for 11 million or more illegal aliens who are currently “undocumented” and unable to provide reliable proof of their true identities. Many could pose a threat to America’s national security.
Americans and legal immigrant workers will compete with millions more newly authorized for scarce jobs. Amnesty will heavily impact America’s minority workers and hobbles America’s economy.
Shortcuts in the naturalization process that have been implemented over the past 3 decades have made it easier for aliens to acquire citizenship when, in fact, they should have been precluded.
Good moral character investigations, once a requisite for citizenship, and the requirement that aliens seeking to naturalize provide witnesses to support their claim have been discontinued.
The majority of naturalized citizens are honest, patriotic Americans. However, the lack of integrity in the naturalization process could create a national security crisis for America.
On January 25, 2013 Homeland Security Newswire, an online publication that focuses on national security, posted an article titled: “Immigration Naturalized security threats retain their U.S. citizenship”
This article was based on a Center for Immigration Studies report which focused on how a significant number of naturalized citizens have been convicted of crimes involving serious breaches of the national security including terrorism, espionage and theft of sensitive information and technology.
The report noted that the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals had ruled that the former Immigration and Naturalization Service and now Department of Homeland Security cannot administratively strip a naturalized citizen of his citizenship even when his application is fraudulent.
De-naturalization can only be achieved through a successful criminal trial or civil lawsuit filed in federal court.
In light of the foregoing, the naturalization process must have real integrity to begin with. A massive amnesty program for millions of illegal aliens would only exacerbate the process’ lack of integrity. Efforts to clear up existing citizenship application backlogs can result in hapless adjudications officers being pressured to approve increasing numbers of applications.
Approving an immigration application takes only minutes but denying one can take days. Today, many applications are processed without in-person interviews.
While most remember the massive 1986 Immigration Reform and Control Act under the Ronald Reagan administration , few realize that about ten years later, the Clinton administration created an ill-conceived program known as Citizenship USA (CUSA) that ill-advisedly pushed through more than one million citizenship applications.
The DOJ subsequently issued a report about CUSA’s fraud-ridden program that gave lawful status to many unqualified aliens.
The risks in this perilous era must not be allowed to repeat themselves.
