My thoughts about how little has been really done to secure our nation’s southern border

Hi Gang:

Today’s commentary will be unusually short.

These evening as I reviewed some material concerning the deplorable situation to be found along the border that is supposed to separate the United States form Mexico and the rapidly escalating violence in Mexico and along our border I came across three links to appearances I did nearly four years ago on CNN, MSNBC and Fox News about the construction of the fence on the Mexican border.

Please watch these videos and consider the consequences that have resulted from our nation’s failures to secure the Mexican border. In the four years since I appeared on those programs think about how many criminals, how many terrorists and how many tons of narcotics have flowed from Mexico into the United States virtually with the tacit approval of our nation’s leaders from both political parties.

Presently the administration boasts about the addition of a thousand Border Patrol agents a few hundred CBP (Customs and Border Protection) Inspectors and attempts to declare the border is now secure!

Blue smoke and mirrors do not make a good barrier but that seems to be all that the administration is willing to bring to bear to secure our nation’s borders.

The porous borders do not only present a threat to national security and the safety of our citizens but also represent a way for the Mexican government to export millions of their own citizens who, in turn, are expected to do menial work for substandard wages and under dangerous conditions to help bolster the Mexican economy- an economy that is one of the most vibrant in all of Latin America. This enables the average Mexican to continue to find himself (herself) in the untenable situation of being exploited by unscrupulous employers in the United States and their own corrupt government.

The exploitation is not, however, limited to citizens of Mexico. Our porous borders provide people from many other countries to run our nation’s borders and become exploited in the United States as well.

I would like to remind you that when our nation was attacked at Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941 and three thousand Americans were killed- nearly all of them members of the United States military, it took just 44 months for the United States to work cooperatively with our allies to win the Second World War. In order to do so, the United States and its allies built fleets of ships that had never existed previously, fleets of aircraft of all sorts that had never existed before, new tanks and weapons such as bazookas. Additionally our nation and our allies perfected radar, and even constructed atomic bombs with brand new and largely unproven technology.

In fact, August 15 marked the anniversary of the surrender of the Japanese Government to the allied forces.

Today our nation lacks the resolve to do what is necessary to stench the flow of illegal aliens including criminals and terrorists as well as massive tonnage of narcotics and other contraband into the United States even while our expectations of privacy and freedom are being continually eroded in the name of “national security!”
There are many people who are profiting handsomely through illegal immigration but there is a serious price to be paid. Failures to secure our nation’s borders and create an immigration system that has real integrity slams everything from national security and criminal justice to the economy, the environment, healthcare and education.

The exploitation of vulnerable illegal aliens is outrageous and is antithetical to what our nation should stand for. Speaker of the House of Representatives has declared the enforcement of the immigration laws to be “Un-American!”

What is “Un-American” is leaving our nation and our citizens vulnerable to criminals and terrorists. What is “Un-American” is exploiting illegal aliens who are vulnerable and desperate. What is “Un-American” is the undercutting of American workers who are finding it increasingly difficult to secure jobs they desperately need in order to support themselves and their families.

The immigration laws that Ms Pelosi, Senator Schumer and the “usual suspects” so hate were promulgated by our nation’s leaders nearly 60 years ago when the Immigration and Nationality Act that forms the basis for the immigration laws that are on the books today were enacted to protect our nation and our citizens. Indeed, the Immigration and Nationality Act makes it clear that foreign workers may not be hired in the United States if doing so would diminish wages of American citizens and resident aliens or worsen their working conditions.

Additionally, the categories of aliens who are to be excluded from the United States can be found at the following link and include aliens who are infected with dangerous communicable diseases, are convicted of certain crimes, are involved in terrorism or espionage and a list of other such crimes and/or activities that pose a threat to national security and the safety of those who live in the United States.:

Please note that there is nothing in the list of aliens to be excluded from the United States that deals with race, religion, ethnicity or any other such factor. The laws deal purely with people who are neither citizens nor nationals of the United States who, because of the factors enumerated in the statute, pose a threat to America’s security and the well-being of our citizens and those who reside in the United States.

Indeed, our immigration laws are, for the most part, no more stringent than the immigration laws of most other countries- certainly our immigration laws are far less stringent than are the immigration laws of Mexico, the nation that sends us more illegal aliens than any other country on the face of this planet.

As I have noted on many occasions, I country without secure borders can no more stand than can a house without walls!

We the People can add to the consternation of these politicians who are failing to live up to their oaths of office by contacting them and making it abundantly clear that election day is coming and they should think of election day as their personal “Day of Reckoning!”

Our government must live up to its obligation of protecting its own citizens and, indeed, all who are present in our country from the criminals and terrorists who would threaten our lives and the survival of our nation and our way of life. In the end, the government is actually those who are elected to act as our “leaders.” Those who fail to truly lead and look out for those they are supposed to represent, need to be sent packing this coming Election Day!

If our country is to survive and if our children and their children are to get their share of the “American Dream” the citizens of this nation must take their citizenship seriously!

We the People must be the best citizens we can be, citizens who are worthy of the gallantry demonstrated by our valiant men and women in the military, law enforcement and firefighters, who routinely go in harm’s way in defense of this nation and our citizens.

My goal in writing this and other commentaries is to point out our nations many failings before more victims pay the ultimate price for the incompetence and ineptitude of our government.

The first step in problem-solving is to first identify the problems and vulnerabilities and then devise strategies to overcome them.

Any politician who refuses to work to secure our borders and create an immigration system that has integrity is either corrupt or too dumb to keep his (her) job. Any politician, irrespective of party affiliation who favors Comprehensive Immigration Reform and the outrageous betrayal that this would represent given the national security implications that this program would have, should be shown the door at the next election!

If you find yourself to be in agreement with this commentary, I ask that you forward it to as many of your friends and family members as possible and encourage them to do the same.

Later this year, each and every member of the House of Representatives is up for reelection. Later this year more than one third of the members of the United States Senate will have to face their constituents. They need to be reminded that they work for us, We the People!

However, the practice of good citizenship does not end in the voting booth, it only begins there.

The large scale apathy demonstrated by citizens of this nation has emboldened elected representatives to all but ignore the needs of the average American citizen in a quest for massive campaign funds and the promises of votes to be ostensibly delivered by special interest groups. There is much that we cannot do but there is one thing that We the People absolutely must do- we must stop sitting on the sidelines!

The collective failure of We the People to get involved in make our concerns known to our politicians have nearly made the concerns of the great majority of the citizens of this nation all but irrelevant to the politicians.I implore you to get involved!

If this situation concerns you or especially if it angers you, I ask you to call your Senators and Congressional “Representative. This is not only your right- it is your obligation!

All I ask is that you make it clear to our politicians that we are not as dumb as they hope we are!

We live in a perilous world and in a perilous era. The survival of our nation and the lives of our citizens hang in the balance.

This is neither a Conservative issue, nor is it a Liberal issue- simply stated, this is most certainly an AMERICAN issue!

You are either part of the solution or you are a part of the problem!

Democracy is not a spectator sport!

Lead, follow or get out of the way!
