KTAR: “Deputy shot near Stanfield”

Hi Gang:

I was just sent the disturbing news report minutes ago that I attached below- detailing the reported wounding of a Sheriff’s deputy in Pinal County, Arizona.

I hope that the deputy will survive his wounds and recover completely. However, once again it would appear, based on initial reports, that the attack may well have been carried out by individuals smuggling marijuana, who ran our nation’s border that is supposed to separate the United States from the mayhem to be found in Mexico

Meanwhile it is because of this sort of rampant violence emanating from Mexico, that the political leaders of Arizona- members of the state legislature and Governor Brewer did something all but unheard of in this day of inept and dysfunctional government- they enacted legislation to do what the federal government absolutely will not do- enforce the immigration laws in a sensible way!

Now consider that when it became clear that lives could be saved by having occupants of cars wear seatbelts that nearly every state enacted legislation making the use of seatbelts mandatory. Most states now require that babies and small children be seated in car seats that are properly secured. Motorcyclists in many states are now required to wear helmets when they ride on their motorcycles to help save lives and prevent serious head injuries.

All sorts of medication now required to have child-proof caps to protect children from accidental ingestion of pills.

In many states, gun owners are required to use trigger locks or take other steps in order to prevent a child or from getting access to a loaded gun and inadvertently firing it.

Safety warning labels abound on all sorts of products- some reasonable others so absurd as to be laughable- all in the name of “safety.”

Today, in the wake of the massive oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico the President has now announced that newoff-shore oil drilling will be suspended until an investigation is conducted into how the massive oil spill that threatens Gulf coastal regions happened.

It is amazing how quickly politicians are willing to react to some of the threats we face but where the failure to secure our nation’s borders and enforce the immigration laws in a meaningful way from within the interior is concerned- these same politicians will vilify anyone who says that our nation does not only have the right to secure our borders but has the imperative of securing that border that provides access to millions of illegal aliens including criminals and, likely terrorists and supporters of terrorists. These porous borders permit the smuggling of unknown tons of illegal drugs and may lead to the smuggling of weapons of mass destruction into the United States.

While we are on the topic of the potential for terrorists to enter our country- think about how much money and effort has been expended on searching passengers who seek to board airliners inside the United States. Yet our borders remain porous and USCIS (United States Citizenship and Immigration Services) the agency that administers the immigration benefits program and adjudicates more than 6 million applications for all sorts of immigration benefits including the conferring of lawful immigrant status and United States citizenship upon aliens has been found, in one GAO and OIG report after another, to be utterly inept at preventing massive immigration fraud that has been shown in a number of reports, to have provided the terrorists who attacked our nation on September 11, 2001 with unfettered access to our country made the terrorist attacks possible.

On July 27, 2006 I testified at a hearing conducted by the House Subcommittee on Immigration, Border Security and Claims on the topic:

“WHETHER THE ATTEMPTED IMPLEMENTATION OF THE REID-KENNEDY IMMIGRATION BILL WILL RESULT IN AN ADMINISTRATIVE AND NATIONAL SECURITY NIGHTMARE”

I began my Congressional testimony by talking about the concept of “Safety first.”

You can review the transcript of that hearing in its entirety at:

Here is a link to a video of a portion of my testimony at that hearing (my comments back then are every bit as relevant today):

This evening I will end this commentary with that same concept of “Safety first.” If our leaders are unable or unwilling to place the security of our nation and the safety of our citizens first, they need to be removed first chance we get- our safety depends on it! Election Day is coming- but not soon enough!

My dad used to say that in life there are no mistakes- only lessons- if we learn from what goes wrong and make certain to not repeat those mistakes. For him, and for me, it is inexcusable and unforgivable to repeat the same mistakes. To put it another way- insanity has been defined as doing the same things the same way and expecting a different outcome!

If reading this makes it difficult for you to sleep now- perhaps you could do something worthwhile- perhaps you might spend a couple of your sleepless hours writing letters to your elected representatives this evening and remind them that Election Day is just months away!

We the People can add to the consternation of these politicians who are failing to live up to their oaths of office by contacting them and making it abundantly clear that election day is coming and they should think of election day as their personal “Day of Reckoning!”

Our government must live up to its obligation of protecting its own citizens and, indeed, all who are present in our country from the criminals and terrorists who would threaten our lives and the survival of our nation and our way of life. In the end, the government is actually those who are elected to act as our “leaders.” Those who fail to truly lead and look out for those they are supposed to represent, need to be sent packing this coming Election Day!

If our country is to survive and if our children and their children are to get their share of the “American Dream” the citizens of this nation must take their citizenship seriously!

We the People must be the best citizens we can be, citizens who are worthy of the gallantry demonstrated by our valiant men and women in the military, law enforcement and firefighters, who routinely go in harm’s way in defense of this nation and our citizens.

My goal in writing this and other commentaries is to point out our nations many failings before more victims pay the ultimate price for the incompetence and ineptitude of our government.

The first step in problem-solving is to first identify the problems and vulnerabilities and then devise strategies to overcome them.

Any politician who refuses to work to secure our borders and create an immigration system that has integrity is either corrupt or too dumb to keep his (her) job. Any politician, irrespective of party affiliation who favors Comprehensive Immigration Reform and the outrageous betrayal that this would represent given the national security implications that this program would have, should be shown the door at the next election!

If you find yourself to be in agreement with this commentary, I ask that you forward it to as many of your friends and family members as possible and encourage them to do the same. We need to create a “Bucket Brigade of Truth!”

Later this year, each and every member of the House of Representatives is up for reelection. Later this year more than one third of the members of the United States Senate will have to face their constituents. They need to be reminded that they work for us, We the People!

However, the practice of good citizenship does not end in the voting booth, it only begins there.
The large scale apathy demonstrated by citizens of this nation has emboldened elected representatives to all but ignore the needs of the average American citizen in a quest for massive campaign funds and the promises of votes to be ostensibly delivered by special interest groups. There is much that we cannot do but there is one thing that We the People absolutely must do- we must stop sitting on the sidelines!

The collective failure of We the People to get involved in make our concerns known to our politicians have nearly made the concerns of the great majority of the citizens of this nation all but irrelevant to the politicians.I implore you to get involved!
If this situation concerns you or especially if it angers you, I ask you to call your Senators and Congressional “Representative. This is not only your right- it is your obligation!
All I ask is that you make it clear to our politicians that we are not as dumb as they hope we are!
We live in a perilous world and in a perilous era. The survival of our nation and the lives of our citizens hang in the balance.
This is neither a Conservative issue, nor is it a Liberal issue- simply stated, this is most certainly an AMERICAN issue!
You are either part of the solution or you are a part of the problem!
Democracy is not a spectator sport!
Lead, follow or get out of the way!
